Cabo was waiting to celebrate our 10 year anniversary with us.

Our resort.

We were upgraded to the ocean front private pool room...I checked online at it runs up to $2200 a night.

At the same time our continental breakfast was being delivered into our cubby.

Where we ate our breakfast every morning.

While eating breakfast we watched the whales and stingrays in the sea in front of us.

Our fancy 6 course meal.

This year we decided to stay home and have a fun family night for New Years...and actually let the kids stay up until midnight.

We ate tons of junk, drank pop and played Kinnect and Pictionary.

Hockey Tournament

We drove home from Saskatoon on Boxing Day for Dylan's hockey tournament in Edmonton. After 3 games this week...the Beaumont Blackhawks are now in the "A" Final.

They won 11-0!

Chloe was so excited to help out and get ready for Xmas Eve. She kept asking Grandma when it was time to make the punch.

Who needs Xmas presents when you can play with 30 year old toys from Grandpa's stash.

Girls gift exchange: We have a little family tradition of giving gifts for all the girls on Xmas Eve. It is not mandatory and no one expects them...just an unexpected Christmas surprise! This year Danella made beautiful aprons for us all...Chloe's matches mine but she refused to try it on. Wendy made wonderful bath salt cubes in red and green. Mom made beautiful Christmas bags filled with goodies. I made a set of 8 blank notecards. Hmmm....I am already trying to come up with something to do for next year.

I saw this furniture months before our house was finished. I even drove back to the store a couple of times to look at it and even take pictures of it. After we moved in it was time to pick out furniture...I still loved this set. It fits so perfect...now this is our favourite room in the house.

The IT team held a Chili lunch to collect food and money for the local food bank. The 4 of us each made a chili...a hot, a sweet, chicken and seafood. We collected 242lbs of food and $88 for selling cake pops and pretzel hugs.

Today we visited the CN tower.

We also watched a really cool 3D movie on surfing and rode on a simulator where we got to feel the wind and water as we took a super tree on a journey from see to harvest. The kids all said that the ride was their favourite part. (not mine)

Santa Claus Parade

For those of you that hadn't heard...I won a trip for 4 to Toronto and 2 spots for children aged 8-10 to ride on the Looney Toons float in the Santa Claus Parade.

It was a super long day but a great experience for all. We had to take a taxi from our hotel to the start of the parade and then we had to take a taxi to the end of the parade to pick the boys up. We dropped them off at 10 and they didn't reach us at the end of the parade until 3:30.

We enjoyed lots of treats, hot chocolate and reindeer noses before the parade reached us.

October 31st was to be our possession date...I was looking forward to rushing to get up some Halloween decorations in the new house before we went trick or treating in the new neighbourhood...Boo and not the Halloween type of Boo. Our builder informed us 6 days ago that the house will not be ready until November 16th.

We spent the week regrouping and accepting that we will not be in our shiny new house on time. We decorated up the townhouse and had a successful Halloween.

5th Annual Fall Photo Shoot

Every night for the last 4 weeks I would lay in bed thinking...I have to get the kids fall photos done...I will be so sad if it snows before I get a chance to get them done. Well today we had a couple hours free so we headed into Edmonton to where Greg grew up. He took us to where he used to live and then to where he used to toboggan as a kid. It was the perfect spot for this years fall photo shoot.

It is now 8 days until we get into our new house. Let's just say it has been more than a little stressful...and the stress is FAR from over. Here is where it is at today...

The electricians were in hooking up power and installing the hundreds of pot-lights that are in the house...and yes mom they all have bulbs. LOL!

Greg isn't stressed about anything...he has his bar and figures he'll just start drinking.

Carpets go in on Tuesday.

Mom, notice anything wrong with this picture? And all of the other bathrooms in the house...oops his mistake he forgot. So he is calling the tiler to see if they can change the tile above the vanities without wrecking the drywall. This is the bathroom in the basement...the ones upstairs all have a different brownish type tile on them. The jet tub all has the normal floor tile around it (with none of my backsplash) and he says that can't be changed. I am getting my boxing gloves ready....grrrr!!!! At least he said not to worry about the granite on the bar...he will look after the upgrade on that.

Chloe had her first play date with her new friend Niko today.

They get along so well and ask for a play date every day. Her mom owns a dog grooming business so of course Chloe loves to go over there as there are always at least 10 dogs to play with.

This Thanksgiving was a little different than we are used to. It totally snuck up on us and before we knew it it was here and we had no plans, no roaster and no turkey. We originally planned to find a hotel with a turkey dinner but for $30 a person we decided to go a little cheaper....okay a lot cheaper. The kids loved the Hungry Man Turkey dinners.

So far so good. Logan seems to be enjoying his new school. He loves that they have hot lunch every Friday. He also loves being able to wear his own clothes. He is learning French which is a bit of a struggle for him as he had just started to learn Spanish last year. Thursdays he is in Library club. In music he is learning the ukulele and the recorder. He misses his friends from Calgary but they are managing to stay in touch through online Xbox games. He got 86% on his first social test...but didn't do as well on his first rounding math test. It is hard to believe the end of September is almost here and the kids have been back to school for a month already.

First day of school...

in a new school in a new town living in a new house. Everyone was a little nervous and we have a few tears but everyone made it through their first day of school.

Chloe in Grade 1. She has 15 kids in her class this year. Luckily she has a few new kids to the school in her class so she is not the only new one. She told me she had everyone at her table laughing and all the other tables were asking what was so funny. She said "I think I am going to be the class clown!"

Dylan in Grade 2. He was the saddest out of all 3 this morning. But his teacher seems great and when I picked him up he was all smiles. He even said he has a new girlfriend.

Logan after his first day...the only picture I managed to get. I was so excited to see a couple of boys from his classes asked him to play grounders at the park after school.

For the next 2 LONG months. We are in Beaumont renting a townhouse until our new house is ready at the end of October. We decided the best thing to do was to just take what we really needed and then get the movers to move everything else in one haul (offer pending on our house in Calgary as I type this...they want October 21st possession...but it would work out so much better for us for it to be October 30th...we will see what they say!) Needless to say our living arrangements are a little scarce. At least we are one step up from living in the trailer!

And we are off to start our new life in Beaumont. We have one love seat, 5 laundry baskets of clothes, a kitchen table, IKEA dishes, backpacks and school supplies, 3 bikes, 3 bags of hockey equipment, 5 mattresses, 3 boxes of shoes, camping chairs, 2 wardrobes of jackets, lots of stuffies, laptops/computer and a few other random kitchen gadgets I think we might need.

And just like every move nothing ever goes as planned. Greg booked the Uhaul awhile ago but they emailed us last night that our pick up location was in Didsbury...1 hour north of Calgary. No big deal he heads out early to pick it up and it needs a different ball hitch than the one we have. Okay no problem drive around town to try and find a new ball and then pay a mechanic to try and pry off our rusty one that is currently on the truck. Go back to pick up the trailer to find that it has different wiring...so back driving around to find the correct wiring. Whew!!! 4 hours later we finally can start packing the Uhaul.

Winter Activity Day...I don't know how I ended up volunteering for this. I really don't like the cold or the snow and of course it was super cold and snowy today. But they kids had a great time competing with their leadership buddies in all of the events. Chloe was my helper as she didn't have school today.

We had a super fun New Years Eve at the Ivers. The kids had a blast playing mini sticks, Wii and watching movies and the adults enjoyed playing a little Rock Bank.

I won tickets to Carrie Underwood so we raced home from Logan's final game and Sarah picked me up for the concert. It was an amazing show. I wish I would have brought my camera but I didn't know where the seats were and didn't really think about it. But our seats were so good and she ended up riding in this truck right beside an behind us so I could have got some really good picture...oh well at least I had my phone.

Dylan's class spend the day going through all four of the Grade One classes and doing a special craft or activity for 40 minutes. They had a special snack and a special lunch provided by their classmates. Dylan is a ladies man. Alex is on the right and she was in Dylan's class last year. They are such good buddies. Alex's mom told me that Alex and her best girl friend got in a little fight because Alex was spending too much time with Dylan. After school Dylan showed my a Christmas card and whispered to me so Logan couldn't hear...it was from Alex.

Dylan brought wraps...unfortunately he insisted on carrying them in the car and the tray got tipped before we got to school so they were like a ball of wraps instead of a tree.

Logan's Grade 4 class is buddies with Chloe's Kindergarten class and then spent the morning together making crafts, participating in treasure hunts, drawing on the smart board and decorating cookies.

The kids all have Winter parties on Friday and some how I am sending 3 totally different things. Logan requested cake pops so I finished those off tonight.

Just finished all of my gifts for the ladies in the family. I found this idea online and thought it was so cute...it was muffin mix with a Xmas towel, wooden spoon and a note that said Your Gettin Muffin for Christmas. I had to try a couple different muffin recipes before I got one that was a keeper. I used zip lock bags because I had to ship 10 of them Saskatoon and it was way easier this way.

Christmas Muffins

2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp ground mixed spice
100g pecans or walnuts
140g tropical dried fruits medley
100g light muscovado sugar

Layer all the ingredients in a 1 litre glass or plastic preserving jar in the order the ingredients are listed.
Write the following method on a gift label: 'Tip the contents of the jar into a large mixing bowl. Make a well in the centre and add 2 beaten eggs, 300ml/½pt milk and 100g/4oz melted butter. Mix quickly and lightly to a soft batter. Divide between 12 muffin cases. Bake at 190C/fan 170C/gas 5 for 18-20 mins. Use within 4 weeks.' Attach the label and a wooden spoon to the top of the jar with some raffia or coloured ribbon.
